What we forge

Skinners are the deepest category we forge. The line covers drop-point and trailing-point skinners, caping knives for detail work, and gut-hook skinners, in 3 to 5 inch blades that give a hunter control at the hide. Blades are full-tang in Damascus, Wootz and D2 tool steel, ground with the belly a skinner needs, and each ships with a hand-stitched leather sheath.

D2 gives a harder, semi-stainless edge that suits wet, bloody work and low maintenance. Damascus and Wootz give the figure and the story for the buyer who wants a keepsake skinner. All blades are heat-treated to hold an edge through a full field-dressing job.

What is the difference between a skinner and a caping knife?

A skinner has a broad belly for removing hide efficiently; a caping knife is smaller and finer for detail work around the head and cape. We forge both.

Do your skinning knives have a gut hook?

Gut-hook skinners are available alongside plain drop-point and trailing-point models.

Are they finished in the USA with a sheath?

Yes, hand-forged and shipped with a hand-stitched leather sheath.
